Hide & Sleek - Suede Hobo bag

IMG_9990After a visit to the tannery to source some new stock, Fe couldn't help her self being drawn to a shelf of bright red heavy suede splits... Not wanting to disappoint her, I bought one side large enough to make her this stunningly simple Hobo bag. Only made with two cuts of suede, sewn together and folded, its a hippy-hobo classic. I think this one is going to go into my collection which I'm building up for my website launch. Also, with the help of my good friend Julian, I'm going to be selling some pieces at a market/fair soon - details on both to follow shortly.

Hide & Sleek - Steel pint pot sleeves

IMG_9908I recently picked up some Klean Kanteen pint pots and couldn't help myself but make some leather sleeves  for them so you can hold them with hot drinks as well and ice cold beers...  3 of them cross stitched and the third with a lanyard ring so you can carry it on your belt or rucksack. I think they're a smart finishing touch to a great product... looking forward to christening them... cheers!

Hide & Sleek - Fe's (posh) clutch evening bag

IMG_9873My loverly lady Fe subtly hinted she wanted a posh bag for when she goes out in the evenings. (or events with work) Not professing to be able to make anything couture, I thought something classic and simple would do the job instead. Looking around at what hide I had at hand, I wondered if I could actually put something together using the 12oz english bridal belt leather. A bit unorthodox but definitely  clean, classical and will only improve with age and use.

Wanting to keep the design as simple as possible and not clutter it with catches or fastenings, I came up with a design which tucks the cover over the handle and keeps the bag shut. With the addition of a small folding gutter, the bag can hold Fe's evening essentials whilst not compromising its shape (as the leather is so stiff) and still closes easily.

Fe's very pleased with the result and I can't wait to see peoples feedback on her next night out...

What do you think?

Hide & Sleek - Leather box and tray

IMG_9854This pair are a bit off my normal style path but I needed something to hold the clutter on my coffee table and wanted to try something new. Made out of the gorgeous thick british bridal leather, I experimented with a new stitch for the box, a crossed saddle stitch, which is still enormously strong, perfect for corner joints and decorative as well.

I think they make a handsome pair... Simple but effective!IMG_9864
